About

I’m a Ph.D. candidate in the English department at Ohio State University. I am studying rhetoric and composition, specifically first-year writing pedagogy and technology.

My dissertation looks at the rhetoric and function of student participation in the writing classroom in the U.S.  Historically, I am looking at representations of student participation in CCC articles and in an archive of syllabi and a research-intensive university.  Contemporarily, I invited writing teachers to complete a national survey about their thoughts on student participation.  By better understanding the historical nature and contemporary iterations of student participation, writing teachers can be more reflective about the strategic use and assessment of participation in the writing classroom.

I am also interested in people’s experiences with technology, in and outside the classroom.  I have a book chapter accepted for publication on minority women’s technology practices. I am working on an article on what I am calling temporary technology adoption which explores why technology users begin using specific technologies and, more importantly, why they stop using them.

In 2010 I discovered an entirely unexpected love of running and I ran a 10K in April 2011. I also enjoy knitting and camping, depending on the season.
